Abraham Zaleznik

Dr. Zaleznik spent his career as a Professor at the Harvard Business School. He retired as the Konosuke Matsushita Professor of Leadership and is now Emeritus. He undertook psychoanalytic training to advance his studies of leadership, since it was clear to him that to study the phenomena one must understand human motivation and particularly the unconscious. He has published fourteen books and has just completed his fifteenth. The subject of the latest is power and command, which is based on the narratives of lives of individuals who have had encounters with command. In addition to teaching at the Harvard Business School, he conducted a doctoral program and has numbers of graduates who are pursuing academic careers, mainly in Canada and Europe. He also has had a lively consulting practice and has served on many Boards of Directors. In this connection, he served as Vice Chairman of the Ogden Corporation and as Chairman of King Ranch, Inc. Along with Dr. Robert Michels he chaired the discussion group at the American Psychoanalytic Association entitled Psychodynamic Problems in Organizations.
