Peter Sifneos

I was born in Greece, educated in Paris, fled the Nazi occupied France, and after an exciting and dangerous year, was lucky to escape to the United States. I continued my studies at MIT, Harvard and Harvard Medical School, and served as a United States Army psychiatrist for three memorable years in Germany. I returned to the states, became a psychoanalyst, did research in psychosomatic medicine, and continue to teach wonderful young students at Massachusetts General Hospital, BIH, and Harvard Medical School.

I have many interests including history, art, music, archaeology, literature and architecture. I enjoy traveling and lecturing all over Europe and the Americas, and love to read, to swim, to cook, and to drink French wine. It says nothing about my strong sense of independence, nonconformity, or of my liking being described as an original individual or as a black sheep. I have a fierce sense of loyalty to my family, friends and patients.

Finally, I emphasize my fascination at witnessing the psychological process as a continuum, and of observing the ever-changing variations in pattern and style offered to me by my patients during the process of exploring the magnificent horizons of their minds. I am infinitely grateful to them for what they have taught me, and for making my life worth while.
