WELCOME TO BPSI’S COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC PROGRAMS

As part of our ongoing commitment to community outreach and exploring psychoanalytic applications in art and culture, BPSI offers a variety of programs of interest to the public and to the wider professional community.

We provide lectures, courses, and experiences that are of general interest, informed by our understanding of the role of unconscious experiences, communication, and meaning in human lives.

For example:

    • Our Explorations in Mind offers a number of courses that deal with the development and experience of individuals and families in relation to their surroundings and their culture, and the challenges they face.
    • Our Off the Couch series provides a psychoanalytically deep discussion of films. It is held once a month at the Coolidge Cinema in Brookline.
    • BPSI offers an annual Early Childhood Conference for early childhood educators.
    • Our Discussion Group on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity is a collaboration with the Fenway Health Center to discuss and explore how sexuality and gender are thought about in a psychoanalytic context. Theoretical and clinical ideas relevant to academics, clinicians and to the GLBT community are considered.
    • BPSI’s Psychoanalysis and Social Awareness Committee promotes and stimulates greater involvement, by both our Members and the community, regarding issues of social justice and change.
    • We recognize a Member of our organization who has done exemplary work and service for our wider community annually with the Arthur R. Kravitz Award for Community Action and Humanitarian Contributions. The prize is accompanied by a donation we make to a charitable or public-service organization, in honor of the recipient’s work and interest.
    • The Psychoanalytic Education Forum of Boston is a collaborative effort of the three psychoanalytic institutes of Boston (BPSI, MIP, and PINE), offering a series of lectures especially designed for early career clinicians and trainees, but applicable for any clinicians interested in learning more about clinical applications of psychoanalytically-informed ideas about theory and practice. Programs are held monthly, in the evenings, during the academic year, at Cambridge Hospital. If you would like to be added to the PEFB mailing list to receive announcements of upcoming programs, please email Liz Martin at reachmip@gmail.com.
