BPSI’s Adult Psychoanalysis Program provides Candidates with a multi-faceted exploration of the theories and principles of psychoanalytic thought. Through a combination of personal analysis, close supervision, and a broad exposure to the history of psychoanalytic ideas, observations, and theories, our extensive clinical training fully prepares Candidates for the close clinical interactions inherent in psychoanalysis. BPSI is dedicated to ultimately guiding Candidates toward becoming accomplished, compassionate, broadly trained psychoanalysts.

Our training program consists of three major parts, which take place concurrently:

  • A five-year curriculum of theoretical and clinical seminars
  • Three or more supervised psychoanalyses conducted by the Candidate to enhance the understanding of others and provide intensive clinical experience
  • A Candidate’s personal analysis to enhance self-understanding and gain a deep appreciation of the dynamic interaction between analyst and patient

Psychoanalytic Candidates draw from their full capacity of learning, creativity, caring, and compassion. By interweaving scholarly training, relevance through practical experience, with intensive one-on-one supervision, BPSI fully prepares graduates for the clinical practice of psychoanalysis and the application of psychoanalytic concepts to many areas of clinical, scholarly, and other professional work.

Classes are held Thursday evenings at BPSI from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm, with an hour free for dinner.
