FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM ELEMENTS

Unlike the more intensive ATP, the Fellowship core curriculum consists only of seminars, meeting one evening each week.

CURRICULUM
The Fellowship curriculum consists of two seminars, which meet on Thursday evenings. Traditionally, a Theory Seminar meets from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm and a Clinical Seminar meets from 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm. There is a one-hour break between classes when Fellows are able to have dinner and enjoy informal conversations together. The academic year is divided into trimesters of ten weeks each, for a total of 30 classes, from mid-September through early-June. Although BPSI has conducted some virtual classes this year, our focus is on in-person learning when safety allows, and applicants are expected to be able to attend classes at BPSI, at 141 Herrick Road in Newton Centre.

The sequence of theoretical seminars is:

  • Comparative Theory
  • Introduction to Technique
  • Models for Therapeutic Action

Clinical seminars consist of discussion of case material presented by class members and instructors. Senior faculty members serve as discussants. Fellows in the Child Clinical Track have separate clinical seminars which are led by Child Analysts/Therapists.

BPSI provides Continuing Education credits for Social Workers, Psychologists, and Psychiatrists for Fellowship Theory Seminars. For Licensed Mental Health Clinicians, tuition covers up to 20 NBCC clock hours, available each academic year through various BPSI programs.
